HOW TO USE IT

Start with your details

  1. Add your walkers

Enter a display name and choose Add name. Repeat for two to six people in turn order. Select a name tile to edit it, then choose Update. Cancel keeps the existing name. Remove a name with its close button before creating the rota.

  2. Choose the walks and days

Choose 1 to 6 walks per day and 1 to 28 days. Use whole numbers. Choose the pattern your family has agreed.

  3. Set the start date

The date begins at today on your device and can be changed. The rota keeps this date when saved and reopened.

  4. Read, save or export

Create the rota to see everyone's total and the first week. Use Previous week and Next week for longer rotas. Save keeps a separate device copy; Print rota and Calendar .ics include every planned day.

HOW IT WORKS

What shapes your result

Total walks = walks per day x number of days. Each walk goes to the next name in your entered order, returning to the first name after the last. Turns continue across days and weeks.

For N people and T walks, everyone gets floor(T / N) walks. The first T modulo N people get one extra. The highest and lowest totals therefore differ by at most one walk. If there are fewer walks than people, some people get zero turns.

Day N = start date + (N - 1) calendar days. Dates use the shared UTC calendar engine, so month changes, leap days and daylight-saving boundaries do not move a day. Today comes from your device when you first open the form.

The screen shows one seven-day section at a time, with totals for the complete rota. Saved copies remember the selected week. Printing and calendar downloads include every day, including weeks you have not opened.

The calendar contains a separate all-day event for every assigned walk. No walk times are calculated: agree them with your family. Each download creates fresh event identifiers. Importing a file is separate from saving on this device.

This is a form-only organiser using your entries and turn-taking arithmetic. It does not calculate how much exercise your dog needs. The calculation and sources are the same across country URLs; dates use the selected country's format.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask most.

How does the rota share walks fairly?

It gives each walk to the next name in your list, continuing across the whole rota. Everyone gets the same base number of turns, with remaining turns going to the first names. Totals differ by at most one walk.

Does the turn order restart each morning?

No. After the last walk of one day, the next day's first walk goes to the next person. Changing the displayed week also keeps the same turn order.

Can everyone have exactly the same number of walks?

Yes, when the total number of walks divides evenly by the number of people. Otherwise, the first names receive one extra turn. Three people sharing 14 walks get five, five and four.

How many walks per day should I enter?

Enter the number of walks your family has agreed to share. The tool organises responsibility and does not recommend a walking frequency, distance or duration for your dog.

What will the calendar download include?

A separate all-day event for every walk on every planned date, labelled with its walk number and assigned person. It includes the full rota, not just the visible week. Agree actual walk times separately. Nothing is sent to a calendar service automatically.

Can I save and print the whole rota?

Yes. Save on this device creates a separate copy, including names, counts, start date and selected week. Open or delete copies in Saved, or use Delete saved data. Print rota includes everyone's total and every planned day; your browser can save it as a PDF.
