Sharing dog walks as a family: a simple rota
A walking rota can make responsibility clearer by assigning each planned slot to the next person in turn. The tool balances turns, not fitness, availability or suitability. Agree the actual walk needs and a backup arrangement before treating the rota as the care plan.

What should the household agree first?
Decide who can safely manage the dog, which walks are needed and who covers a missed slot. AVMA notes that adults retain responsibility and must supervise children's involvement in care.
The rota does not set an exercise prescription or evaluate a person's ability. A fair number of slots can still be unsuitable if the practical arrangements are not agreed.
How are the turns distributed?
Enter two to six distinct display names, one to six walks a day, one to twenty-eight days and a start date. Each slot goes to the next person, continuing across day and week boundaries.
Three people sharing fourteen slots cannot each receive a whole-number total of exactly the same size. The difference in this rotation is one slot: the first two receive five and the third receives four.
What if someone cannot do their turn?
Agree a replacement and tell the other people involved. The tool does not message anyone, verify availability or automatically swap care after a calendar event.
A calendar slot also does not establish how long a dog can be left alone. Keep companionship, toileting and the individual routine in the actual care arrangement.
What does the seven-day example produce?
Use Person 1, Person 2 and Person 3, with two walks each day for seven days starting 1 November 2026. The result has fourteen slots and ends 7 November. Save, print and calendar export retain the complete period; the all-day events require actual walk times to be agreed separately.

Common questions
More answers on this topic.
Does the tool decide how much exercise the dog needs?
No. It assigns the slots you choose; individual walk needs are separate.
Are turns restarted each Monday?
No. The rotation continues across days and weeks.
Will a download notify the assigned person?
No. It creates calendar events, not messages or confirmed arrangements.
Why are the totals five, five and four?
Fourteen slots do not divide equally between three people; the continuing rotation differs by one slot.
